Kanye West said he's running for president during the VMAs, and people are freaking out

Kanye West closed out the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards with the biggest mic drop of the night — both literally and figuratively.

The 38-year-old rapper was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award on Sunday, Aug. 30, and he ended his lengthy acceptance speech (full transcript here) by announcing that he plans to run for president in 2020 — despite the fact that he said he was “no politician” only moments prior. From his speech (h/t Complex):

I don’t know what I’m finna lose after this. It don’t matter, though, because it ain’t about me—it’s about new ideas, bro. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment I have decided in 2020 to run for president.
West — whose seventh studio album is currently locked away in a treasure chest buried at the bottom of a trench he timeshares with Rihanna and Frank Ocean — also touched on his public image and the media giants (like, um, MTV) that profited off of his 2009 VMA controversy with Taylor Swift elsewhere in the speech.

By the looks of Twitter, the American people are equal parts excited and overwhelmed by this news.

If anybody needs me, I’ll be lying unconscious and overwhelmed on my $12 rug from IKEA.

Bad at filling out bios seeks same.
