On Facebook, Cookie Monster is 10 times as popular as Hillary Clinton
Digiday reports that the beloved children’s TV series Sesame Street, now entering its 46th season, maintains social media profiles for some of its most popular characters. But have these lovable, furry puppets, dreamed up by Jim Henson in the late ’60s, managed to find a loyal fanbase on the Internet?
Yes, they have, and how. As of press time, Cookie Monster‘s Facebook page has a staggering count of 9.4 million likes — making him nearly 10 times as popular on the social networking site as 2016 presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who’s accumulated just 984,286.
The 44th First Lady is not alone. On Facebook, the dessert-loving Muppet also outperforms the New York Yankees (8.3 million likes), Burger King (7.2 million likes), and surprisingly many heavyweight celebrities. (More on them later.)
