On Sunday, the U.S. Women’s National Team beat Japan to win the Women’s World Cup, nabbing the championship for the third time.
There was, naturally, some controversy along with the victory. There were some unsavory references to Pearl Harbor, and FIFA, per usual, earned criticism: According to NBC, FIFA refused to tweet about the win from its main Twitter account. Plus, there’s always the question of how to maintain interest in a U.S. women’s soccer league after the bells and whistles of a world cup are gone.
