The best Netflix plan is getting more expensive

Bad news, Netflix-heads, your favorite streaming service is about to get (slightly) more expensive.

Bloomberg reported that the company’s standard plan has changed from $8.99 to $9.99 per month, and is effective immediately for new customers:

Netflix Inc., the world’s dominant paid online video service, is raising the price of its most popular streaming subscription by $1 a month to $9.99 for new customers in the U.S., Canada and parts of Latin America following a similar move in Europe this year.

You can see the change on Netflix’s website:

Existing customers will continue to pay $8.99 per month for now, but will eventually see their bill go up as well. The company last raised prices in the U.S. in May of last year.

According to Engadget, the company released the following statement on the price hike:

To continue adding more TV shows and movies including many Netflix original titles, we are modestly raising the price for some new members in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. As a thank you to existing Netflix members — who aren’t already benefiting from a previous price guarantee — we will maintain their current price for a year.

Guess that means Netflix and chill sessions are going to get a little pricier.
