This IHOP served a couple two omelettes, drinks, and a receipt that read 'BLACK PPL'

Arainia Brown and her boyfriend Rolman Sparkman were traveling back to Austin in the early Monday morning hours when they stopped at an IHOP off Interstate-35 for some food. When Brown picked up their order, she noticed something strange on the receipt: instead of her or Sparkman’s name, the name on their order read, “BLACK PPL.”

“I feel upset, I’m sad, I’m angry. Like this, it makes no sense,” Brown told KVUE. She told the station she “didn’t want to cause any commotion” at the IHOP, so she posted the receipt to her Facebook, where it was quickly shared more than 14,000 times.

Worse, Brown told the station, their server, Dwayne Williams, is black. Williams, who says he was fired from his job following the incident, told Fox 7 that the receipt labeling was a “slip up to get orders out,” and apologized.

In response, IHOP released the following statement:

This was a poor choice made by our franchisee’s team member, and is not in keeping with policies and procedures. We recognize that it could be offensive and apologize. Everyone is welcome in our restaurants and our franchisee is using this as a teachable moment for the entire team so that it will not reoccur.

“You could have asked me my name,” Brown told KVUE. “Don’t put, don’t label me. I don’t label you.”
