Who asked for this YouTuber's video about Black Lives Matter?

Approximately zero people have been begging for Ryan Higa to make a video about police accountability and Black Lives Matter activism, but that didn’t stop the popular YouTuber from making one anyway.

In a new video titled “A World Without Police?!”—which has already been viewed over 1.7 million times—Higa takes a stand against all those people out there who make wannabe viral videos where they “borderline harass” a police officer until that officer “gets so mad he makes a mistake and they get it all on camera.” But, like, citation needed? What is he talking about?

“I’m not defending those police officers that actually deserve to get exposed,” Higa tells his 15.7 million subscribers, “I’m just defending police officers as a whole.”

But maybe he should be more critical of the institution “as a whole” when police officers kill black and Native American people at rates disproportionate to the United States’ population. Maybe he should be more concerned about police officers “as a whole” when black people are three times more likely than white people to die during an encounter with law enforcement.

Above all, maybe he should know his strengths and not wade into an important conversation to which he has nothing of substance to contribute.
