9 ways you'll be wearing denim in the (near) future
Denim, like leather, technically isn’t a trend because there don’t seem to be any plans in the foreseeable future for people to stop wearing it. And why let go of something that goes with everything? Season after season designers keep reinventing (and usually borrowing from the past) the ways we wear denim—from trying new silhouettes to experimenting with textures. Now, we’re having an interesting moment where designers are influenced by trends from four decades. Mini dresses, high-waisted flares and bell bottoms from the ’70s. Oversized denim jackets and mom jeans from the ’80s. Denim skirts and frayed jeans from the ’90s. Dresses over jeans, low-rise jeans, and denim head-to-toe from the early aughts.
This season high-end streetwear brands like Off-White, Marques’Almeida, and Koché (which just debuted for the first time at Paris Fashion Week) have been leading the way in what’s next for denim. Off-White’s Virgil Abloh told Vogue that he collaborated with Levi’s to rework vintage pieces. We rounded up nine of our favorite denim moment on the runways this Spring 2016 season. From denim ballgowns (an chic update from Britney Spears in 2001) to off-the-shoulder denim jackets, this is what we’ll be wearing in the near future (also known as next spring).
