Anna Wintour reportedly met with Donald Trump. What does it all mean?
President-elect Donald Trump had a pretty busy day on Tuesday. No, he didn’t finally decide to sit through his daily intelligence briefing—but he did meet with some “celebrities” and “influencers.”
He met with rapper Kanye West to “take a picture” and discuss “multicultural issues.” He met with NFL players Ray Lewis and Jim Brown (who admitted he didn’t actually vote for Trump) and Pastor Darrell Scott to discuss “African American issues.” And, finally, he reportedly met with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
The meeting is notable not only because of the participants involved but also because of Wintour’s well-known political views. (I reached out to Vogue for comment; they didn’t get back to me.)
Just this weekend, Wintour was heard on a “packed commuter train” ranting about Trump, according to the Sunday Mirror. (Note: This story seems strange just for the fact that Anna Wintour was seen on public transportation, but I’ll put my publicity stunt theories to bed ). In July, she took a jab at Trump at an Cannes event, joking, “Politics is not traditionally a creative industry, but in America it’s currently being dominated by people with very active imaginations.” She also famously supported both president Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton—who also received Vogue’s first-ever presidential endorsement—and featured first lady Michelle Obama on Vogue‘s cover three times including for its most recent November issue.
