Chris Christie worked the Republican convention crowd into a brutal anti-Hillary Clinton frenzy

One-time presidential hopeful and full-time Donald Trump McDonald’s fetcher Chris Christie spoke at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night. He talked a bit about Trump, but he mostly spent his time putting Hillary Clinton through a brutal, frenzied mock trial that drew roars and cheerful screaming from the convention audience in Cleveland.

“Hillary Clinton, as a failure for ruining Libya and creating a nest for terrorist activity by ISIS—guilty or not guilty?” Christie questioned, invoking the specter of Benghazi. “Hillary Clinton, as an apologist for an Al-Qaeda affiliate in Nigeria resulting in the capture of innocent young women guilty or not guilty?” She fights for the wrong people.”

The crowd, which had been largely subdued up until Christie’s speech played along with the “trial” motif, shouting back that the Democratic frontrunner was, in fact, guilty, and that it was time to “lock her up.”

The tone of Christie’s bit was as effective at riling up the convention as it was undeniably witch-hunty.

“We must ask this question: Hillary Clinton, as an awful judge of the character of a dictator-butcher in the Middle East—guilty or not guilty?” he went on. “Hillary Clinton, putting herself ahead of America—guilty or not guilty? Hillary Clinton, lying to the American people about her selfish, awful judgment—guilty or not guilty?”

Moments after Christie’s speech ended, Hillary Clinton’s camp sent out a simple tweet urging anyone who felt as if Christie was in a position to criticize someone for their political to remember his office’s involvement in Bridgegate.
