David Dao Just Settled With United Over His Brutal Assault
Attorneys for David Dao, the 69-year-old Kentucky physician who was dragged off an overbooked United Airlines flight earlier this month, announced Thursday afternoon that they’ve reached an “amicable” settlement with the airline over the ordeal.
As a condition of the settlement, the amount Dao will receive is confidential, a statement from the law offices of Corboy and Demetrio said.

Videos of three Chicago law enforcement officers yanking Dao out of his window seats, causing him to hit his face on an arm rest and suffer bloody injuries and a serious concussion, went viral on April 9, sparking international outrage directed at United.
Thomas Demetrio, a Chicago-based personal injury attorney for Dao, praised United CEO Oscar Munoz for taking “full responsibility for what happened on Flight 3411″ from Chicago to Louisville.
“Mr. Munoz said he was going to do the right thing, and he has,” Demetrio said in the statement. “For this acceptance of corporate accountability, United is to be applauded.”
The settlement was announced the same day that United Airlines released a report based on its investigation of the incident. The report included a number of proposed changes to prevent such an incident from happening again, including offering up to $10,000 in travel vouchers as incentive for passengers to give up their seat on an overbooked flight.
