El Chapo's prison break becomes meme fodder because internet

There’s a certain “je ne sais Shawshank” to Joaquín “Chapo” Guzmán’s prison break this weekend, what with the whole tunneling out thing and all. So, it’s no surprise that the Mexican drug lord‘s escape from maximum security—his second in about 15 years—has inspired not a few Shawshank-referencing memes on social media, among others.

El Chapo reportedly broke out of prison thanks to a mile-long tunnel under the showers, hence all the Shawshank references on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr.

Others thought it was more Frozen or Super Mario Bros.


Tons of people joked that el Chapo was coming to see part-time presidential hopeful, full-time toupée bender Donald Trump about the offensive things he said about Mexicans.

And even more users made the exact. same. joke. about how they can’t even sneak out of their own house.

Somebody please put this thirsty trendbot out of its misery.
