It feels right that Kanye West's childhood home is going to be used to help young artists in Chicago

Rhymefest—perhaps best-known for co-writing “Jesus Walks”—announced on Instagram that he is purchasing Kanye West’s childhood home. The Chicago activist and hip-hop veteran wants to turn it into a community art incubator, recording studio, and museum dedicated to musicians from Chicago’s South Side.

I’m excited to announce the purchase of Kanye’s childhood home as a community Arts incubator. It will be the first of our Nationwide Lite-Houses. A state of the art recording studio, a curriculum space for @dondashouse and southside music museam. We want to show bright spots in communities thatve been divested from, we know more Lights exist here, they just need to be activated. The conduit through which this will be built is Donda’s House, the nonprofit West and Rhymefest founded in 2013 in memory of West’s late mother, Dr. Donda West. It works on improving access to arts institutions for Chicago’s youth.
