Lana Del Rey Confirms Radiohead Is Suing Her

Ethereal pop songstress Lana Del Rey confirmed on Twitter on Sunday that British rock band Radiohead is suing her for copyright infringement for her song “Get Free.”

The members of Radiohead allege that the song, which appears on Del Rey’s album Lust for Life, is too similar to the band’s 1992 smash hit “Creep.” This is an interesting claim, considering that Radiohead also was sued for that song’s alleged similarities to The Hollies’ 1974 song “The Air That I Breathe,” according to Pitchfork and other reports.

Rumors about the lawsuit had been circulating over the weekend, and Del Rey confirmed that ongoing negotiations between the two artists had been unproductive.

“It’s true about the lawsuit,” Del Rey tweeted. “Although I know my song wasn’t inspired by Creep, Radiohead feel it was and want 100% of the publishing – I offered up to 40 over the last few months but they will only accept 100. Their lawyers have been relentless, so we will deal with it in court.”

Representatives for Radiohead did not comment following requests from both Pitchfork and Rolling Stone. The band settled its previous lawsuit over “Creep” out of court by giving songwriting credit to Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood and ceding a percentage of publishing.
