Miami police are going to boycott Beyoncé's concert

Miami’s police union announced Thursday it plans to boycott Beyonce’s performance in the city in April over her controversial Super Bowl performance.

“The fact that Beyoncé used this year’s Super Bowl to divide Americans by promoting the Black Panthers and her antipolice message shows how she does not support law enforcement,” Javier Ortiz, president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, said in a statement issued Thursday.

Ortiz has previously stated concern about Florida’s open carry law because it might be used by black activists.

The boycott means off-duty police officers won’t work the show, the Miami Herald reported.

The Tampa Tribune reported that Tampa police support boycotting the purchase of anything products related to the artist, and that they order off-duty officers to volunteer for it, but that they will still provide full protection for Beyoncé’s performance there in late April.
