Music legend Prince dead at 57

Reports from Chanhassen, Minn., confirm that iconic pop star Prince has died. He was 57.

Born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis, a singer, songwriter, actor, and multi-instrumentalist, Prince rose to fame on a string of best-selling albums including 1999 and Sign “O” The Times.

TMZ reports the famously purple-clad superstar’s body was found early Thursday morning at his Paisley Park compound, where he lived, recorded, and threw concerts.

On Apr. 15, Prince’s private jet was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Illinois following an unspecified “medical emergency.” Representatives later confirmed the musician was suffering from the flu. Immediately thereafter, Prince held an impromptu concert at his home in an effort to calm fears about his health. The show was billed as part of a “Paisley Park After Dark Summer Series,” hinting he had more concerts in mind for the future.

Many hearing the news of Prince’s death will undoubtedly turn to the opening lyrics to his hit “Let’s Go Crazy,” from 1984’s Purple Rain.

“Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here together to get through this thing called ‘life'”
