People at the RNC can't tell the difference between Mike Pence and the dad from 'Frasier'

When Donald Trump tapped Indiana governor Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate, the decision was met with accusations of being  a “safe” and “remarkably orthodox” choice—perhaps even a little too orthodox. For as much as this week’s RNC has strained to highlight diversity within the Republican ranks, the fact remains that the GOP is still largely a party of, and by, old white men. Pence doesn’t break the mold, he’s its platonic ideal of a generic Republican standard-bearer.

To show just how generic Pence truly is, NBC sent Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost to the RNC in Cleveland where the duo asked passersby to simply point out the current Republican VP nominee from a lineup of white men. People had a hard time.

Amazingly, in the midst of what is currently the most politically charged city in the U.S., people struggled to identify the man seeking the second-highest office in the land. “Do I know what he looks like?” one participant asked, incredulously. “He’s got white hair, and he’s a white man.”
