Taylor Swift owns TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult, but what other domain names should she buy?
Sites that end in .com, .org, and .net are so 1998. There now more than 500 generic top-level domains in existence, from .academy to .zone. Before a number of potentially controversial domains become available to the public on June 1, VIP trademark holders, brands, and celebrities have been given the opportunity to snatch them up before us normals can get our grubby hands on them. CNNMoney reports that Taylor Swift’s team has bought TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult to prevent trolls from squatting on those URLs. This was no doubt a smart idea: the Internet is a weird, wild place, built out of mother’s basements by the rage-filled 38-year-old men who reside in them.
But Web real estate can get a lot weirder and wilder than .porn and .adult. If they haven’t already, Team Taylor might want to get on these domain names, too. (And before you ask, yes, the top-level domains you’re about to see are all totally real.)
