The smiling faces of the Confederate flag bye-bye party

The Confederate flag in front of the South Carolina State House was lowered today after 23 days of emotional debates over what many South Carolinians called a symbol of hate.

The crowd at the ceremony to remove the flag was estimated at up to 10,000 people, and they were full of emotion.

The crowd chanted “hey, hey, hey, goodbye” as an honor guard of South Carolina troopers lowered the flag during a six-minute ceremony, according to the AP.

The diverse crowd celebrated even in 90º temperatures with 40% humidity.

The crowd gathered in front of the State House also included supporters of the flag but those celebrating seemed to be to be too busy celebrating to mind them.
