There was an actual song called 'Make America Great Again' at the RNC

There’s a big difference between watching the Republican National Convention on cable networks and watching the pure, uncut version on C-SPAN: the music.

When cable networks cut away to experts and panels, those on the floor listened to the music of the house band, led by GE Smith. The house band played a lot of classic rock covers, but the coup de grace ahead of Ivanka Trump’s big entrance on Thursday night was a country-sounding song that included the lyrics “Make America Great Again.”

The music choices were a bit, odd, to say the least.

To top off Thursday’s bizarre music, Donald Trump and Mike Pence walked out to the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”

There were some classic rock snafus in the four nights. On Monday, Trump entered to Queen’s “We Are the Champions,” which the band said later had been “unauthorized.”

Also on Monday, the house band played David Bowie’s “Station to Station,” which includes the lyrics “It’s not the side-effects of the cocaine / I’m thinking that it must be love / It’s too late to be grateful.”

Similar to the beginning of a Red Sox game, every night featured a cover of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.”

Remember, we’re only a few days away from the Democratic National Convention, where there is sure to be a lot of “Fight Song” be played.
