These 'woman cards' let you stack the deck against the patriarchy
Remember the “woman’s card”? It’s that magical, unicorn-like super power that Republican presidential nominee and former reality TV star Donald J. Trump said was the only thing that Democratic rival and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had going for her on the campaign trail—nay, in life. According to Trump, being a woman just makes everything so darn easy! It would almost be funny if it weren’t so completely…depressing.
But the folks at NARAL Pro-Choice America are hoping to get the last laugh. After Trump made his egregious remarks, Clinton responded by saying, “if fighting for women’s healthcare and paid family leave and equal pay is playing the woman card, then deal me in!” And now, the pro-choice and social justice advocacy group has released an entire deck of “woman cards” so that we can all can deal women in, no matter where we are.
The deck is illustrated by artist Andrea Sparacio, and its featured inspirations include not only Clinton herself, but women from a range of fields and experiences and time periods. There are co-founders of the Black Lives Matter movement Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi.
There’s American Red Cross founder Clara Barton.
