Women are partying outside the Supreme Court to celebrate a landmark abortion ruling

The Supreme Court ruled 5–3 to reject one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country this morning, setting a national precedent and re-affirming women’s constitutional right to seek abortions. Pro-choice demonstrators cheered, sang victory songs (including some Beyoncé, reportedly) and danced in celebration on the steps of the Supreme Court, while pro-life groups shouted protests in the background:

In a quieter but just as emotional scene at Whole Woman’s Health, in downtown McAllen, Tex., women gathered to celebrate that today’s ruling that will keep their local clinic open:

The clinic was one of at least nine in the state that would have shut down if Texas HB2 had been upheld by the Supreme Court, and one of hundreds of abortion clinics across the country that SCOTUS just re-affirmed as safe and essential women’s healthcare providers.
