11 women we love who got snubbed by the Emmys
There are a lot of great things about the Emmy nominations this year. There was Anthony Anderson’s pure joy at announcing his own nomination for best lead actor for Black-ish. The Americans finally got recognition after four great seasons. Aziz Ansari became the first Indian-American to get a lead comedy acting nomination. And Queen Bey is even further on her way to getting that inevitable EGOT.
Then there are other things that made us raise an eyebrow. Will there ever be a year when ABC’s Modern Family isn’t nominated—especially now that it shares a network with wildly inventive comedies like Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, and The Goldbergs? And with series like Power, Girls, OITNB, Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, and The Affair delivering plenty of opportunities for badass female creators behind the scenes, why are the women nominated in categories of writing and directing so scarce?e
Of course, all our favorites aren’t always going to be nominated for Emmys, but some of these omissions left us perplexed.
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Give some respect to the last season of The Good Wife.
Alison Wright, The Americans
While the main characters got nominated for Emmys, Martha is seriously the only character I care deeply about on the show.
Uzo Aduba,Orange Is The New Black
While Orange Is The New Black has been criticized for the lack of people of color behind the scenes, the show’s portrayal of women with mental illnesses this season was something to be applauded.
