A character from 'The Simpsons' is coming out as gay

Have you watched The Simpsons lately? I haven’t. The show was good, but only when I was growing up. Then it was bad. My friend Bilal says that it’s good again. I guess he’ll appreciate the following news.

Simpsons showrunner Al Jean told TVLine that Waylon Smithers, the Fox show’s all-but-confirmed “confirmed bachelor,” will finally come out as gay to his boss, Monty Burns, who has long been the object of Smithers’ questionably placed affection. The coming out is expected to take place over the course of two episodes.

“In Springfield now, most people know he’s gay, but obviously Burns doesn’t,” Jean told the site. “We actually do a lot with Smithers this year; he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options.”

In another shocking reveal, Jean confirms that The Simpsons is currently in its 27th season; the season premiere, titled “Every Man’s Dream,” aired Sunday, Sept. 27. That’s so many seasons past the series’ peak: the scene in season five where Marge tells Bart that potatoes are “neat.”
