Ali Wong and Randall Park Team Up for the Asian-Led Romantic Comedy We've All Been Waiting For
It’s only Tuesday, but it’s already been a pretty big week for our pals over at Netflix. Yesterday they announced that they’re rolling out the carpet for Shonda Rhimes, and today, they’ve picked up a romantic comedy starring Ali Wong and Fresh Off the Boat’s Randall Park. It’s the fulfillment of a long dream for Wong and Park, who have been talking about doing a When Harry Met Sally-style rom-com for years. It’s also welcome news for anyone who wants to see Asian stars in romantic leading roles, something they get to do all too rarely.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the currently untitled project is about “two childhood friends who fall in love as adults — though they’ve ended up in vastly different socioeconomic situations.” Wong and Park cowrote the script along with Michael Golamco, a playwright, screenwriter, and staff writer for NBC’s Grimm.

Hopefully it will be the kind of rom-com that, much like Wong’s standup special Baby Cobra, you think will be a cute bonding experience to watch with your mother but then a lot of very raunchy sex stuff comes up and it ends up being the kind of unforgettable bonding experience you really wish you could forget. Either way, I’m looking forward to this inter-Asian romance, and once again, congrats to Netflix’s PR team.
