Black Twitter's enchanted with the idea of a #BlackHarryPotter

Earlier this week, the Harry Potter fan community met Noma Dumezweni, the black actress slated to play Hermione Granger in the upcoming stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Seeing Granger, one of the series’ most skilled and powerful witches, depicted as a black woman caused a wave of excitement that took over Black Twitter and conjured the #BlackHarryPotter hashtag.

Much like the #NigeriansAtHogwarts tag, the premise behind #BlackHarryPotter was a simple, but important one: What if Harry Potter were written from the perspective of and subsequently filmed with black actors?
