Brave Republican Senators Wait Until Healthcare Bill Is Pulled to Announce Their Opposition

This is Republican senator Jerry Moran, of Kansas.

As you probably heard, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell abruptly delayed the planned vote on the Republican healthcare bill on Tuesday, giving himself more time to cobble together the numbers needed to pass it.

Moran—who had issued vague criticisms of the bill but had not been one of the senators to actually oppose it, even after the Congressional Budget Office said that it would make brutal cuts to Medicaid and rob 22 million people of their healthcare coverage—chose that time to take a brave stand against a bill he wasn’t actually being asked to vote on anymore. He assured everyone that he definitely wouldn’t have voted for the bill. And who are we not to believe him?

Jerry Moran, a true hero. If only more politicians like him existed. Oh wait, they do!

Meet Rob Portman of Ohio and Shelly Moore Capito of West Virginia.

Just like Moran, they waited until the bill was pulled to say they didn’t like it.
