Obviously Dickerson, host of Face the Nation and political director of CBS News, is qualified to take on CBS’s morning show, which trails in the ratings behind ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today. But it does seem like a missed opportunity to replace such a heinous symbol of the toxicity that plagues every industry with a woman and/or a person of color. For instance, Hoda Kotb filled in for Matt Lauer, giving Today a huge ratings boost, and she was eventually hired to replace him full-time.
Besides, a morning show fronted by two women is a rarity in itself, but three women? Two of which are Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell? Could have been historic. But perhaps CBS isn’t looking for history—they’re just looking for a bit of “normalcy.”
