Happy Memorial Day, y’all! Here in New York City, Memorial Day marks the end of Fleet Week, when active Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard ships dock and sailors fill the streets. While civilians have the opportunity to tour the military ships, service members take in the sights of the city. You know what that means: The #fleetweek tag on Instagram is lit.

These photos offer a side of American heroes that we don’t usually get to see—having some well-deserved fun and cutting loose with everyone from drag queens to the Statue of Liberty street performers of Times Square. Let’s take a look, shall we?
