Democrats 'Collectively Groan' Over Clinton's Book Tour

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Hillary Clinton wrote a book about the 2016 presidential campaign. It’s called What Happened. Excerpts from the book, which has yet to be released, suggest that Clinton (unsurprisingly) has no intention of accepting her own failures as candidate and will continue to blame just about everybody else for what happened. As Clinton prepares to take her blame game across the country via book tour, Democrats are white-knuckling their way through another Clinton “news cycle,” apparently.

Speaking to Politico, Democratic House Representative Jared Huffman candidly summarized the party’s reaction to Clinton’s book, her commitment to burning Bernie Sanders, and just generally being a self-righteous person who is incapable of letting anything go. “There is a collective groan whenever there’s another news cycle about this,” Huffman said.

Huffman, who supported Clinton, even implored Clinton to reconsider her criticism of Sanders after leaked excerpts from the book revealed her theory that the Vermont Senator “paved the way” for Trump’s campaign.

Huffman told Politico that the tweet was well-received by his Democratic colleagues — who privately “liked” his sentiment. “She’s got every right to tell her story. Who am I to say she shouldn’t, or how she should tell it?” Huffman added. “But it is difficult for some of us, even like myself who’ve supported her, to play out all these media cycles about the blame game, and the excuses.”

Other Democrats echoed Huffman’s exhaustion, albeit in less explicit terms. When Politico asked Senator Claire McCaskill whether she was excited about Clinton’s book, McCaskill responded with a resounding eye roll. “Beg your pardon?” she asked. After the reporter repeated the question, McCaskill walked away.

Senator Ron Wyden politely said Clinton’s dogged rehashing of the campaign, in her own sanctimonious terms, could impede the party’s progress and midterm success. “I’ve always been a looking forward kind of a guy,” Wyden told Politico. “I think I’ll leave it at that.”
