Homeland Security Chief Is 'Offended' at People Opposing Trump's Horrific Immigration Policies

Despite heading a federal agency responsible for vilifying immigrants, tearing families apart, and deporting some of the most vulnerable people in America’s undocumented communities, Department of Homeland Security chief John Kelly is reportedly shocked—shocked!—to learn there are those out there who are less-than-thrilled with the Trump administration’s cruel immigration enforcement policies.

Speaking alongside GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday, Kelly said he couldn’t believe Democratic members of Congress were opposing to the White House’s ongoing anti-immigrant crusade across the United States.

“I am offended when members of this institution pressure and often threaten me and my officers to ignore the laws they make and I am sworn to uphold,” he said.

Of course, the current surge in anti-immigrant sentiment is largely the result of President Trump’s racist rhetoric, and executive orders—and not, as Kelly insinuated, congressional action.

Still, if Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, feels threatened and offended, imagine how the millions of undocumented immigrants—many of whom are simply trying to live their lives in peace and safety—must feel, given the looming risk of deportation hanging over their heads now more than ever.

Kelly’s comments came as the House prepared to take up two hardline immigration bills: one aimed at criminals attempting to re-enter the United States illegally, the other targeting sanctuary cities that refuse to assist with certain federal immigration enforcement actions.
