Trump Signs Bill to End Government Shutdown [UPDATE]

Following the lead of its colleagues in the Senate, the House passed a bill 266-150 Monday evening to end the government shutdown.

The bill, which will keep the government open for only three weeks, now goes to the desk of President Trump, who is expected to sign it.

After Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told the Senate on Sunday night that he was prepared to engage in conversations about immigration reform in the weeks following the Senate vote, Democrats sent West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin and Alabama Senator Doug Jones to talk DACA with Trump, CNN reports. Manchin told reporters that Trump was “in a good place” during the meeting.

Update, 10:15 PM ET, 1/22/2018:

President Trump signed a bill Monday evening to end the government shutdown three days after it began.

After signing the bill, Trump goaded Democrats by tweeting that they “caved,” allowing Republicans to “win.”

Congress will have roughly three weeks to negotiate a long-term solution for keeping the government open before funding from the bill runs out.
