Mexico Hit by Deadliest Earthquake in Over 3 Decades

More than 240 people are dead after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit southern Mexico on Tuesday. This is the second earthquake to hit the country since the 8.1-magnitude quake on September 7, which left the southern coastal states of Oaxaca and Chiapas hardest hit.

At least 40 buildings have collapsed in Mexico City alone, which was about 65 miles from the epicenter of yesterday’s quake. “Unfortunately I saw [a building] collapse, thinking these are children inside” says Juan Chanes Mora. “It was heartbreaking, and the way it collapsed was very shocking.”
