Michelle Obama Video-Crashed the BET Awards to Honor Chance the Rapper

Last night at the BET Awards, Chance the Rapper was honored with the BET Humanitarian Award for his work supporting and advocating for Chicago Public Schools. Between attempting to hold Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner accountable for freezing Chicago’s public school budget, donating $1 million to the budget himself, and raising $2 million through his Social Works non-profit, Chance has been more than pulling his weight in Trump’s America. And what better way to acknowledge that than a heartfelt message from the former First Lady (but also our Forever First Lady) Michelle Obama?

In a surprise video message, Obama, who clearly won the breakup with America, expressed how proud she was of Chance the Rapper:

In addition to making some really amazing music, Chance has been taking that big, bright spotlight that follows him around, and he’s shining it on young people in our hometown of Chicago. Time and again he has been standing up, speaking out, and doing the work to get kids in our community the education they deserve. And with these passionate efforts, Chance is showing our young people that they matter, that they have something inside of them that is worthy of being expressed, and that they have so much to contribute to their communities and to our country.

Congrats to Chance, who became the youngest recipient of the award at 24. He joins the ranks of Jesse Williams, Al Sharpton, Alicia Keys, and Muhammad Ali.
