Police Officer Who Shot and Killed Tamir Rice Fired 900 Days After Shooting for Insane, Unrelated Reason 

Officer Timothy Loehmann, who started firing on Rice just seconds after responding to reports of a person waving a gun in November 2014, will be fired from the city’s police force for lying on his job application, not for killing a child who turned out only to have an airsoft gun, city officials announced in a Tuesday morning news conference.

Officials said the officers did not violate any rules other than failing to inform communications of their position during the moments leading up to the shooting.

However, Loehmann’s termination was due to alleged misinformation on his employment application to the department, not his conduct in the shooting.

Back in January 2016, a grand jury declined to indict Loehmann for any crimes related to the killing. Officer Frank Garmback, the other Cleveland officer involved in the killing, will be suspended for 10 days starting on Wednesday. He’ll also be required to attend “additional tactical training.”

Samaria Rice, Tamir’s mother, has spent 920 days waiting for justice for her son. It appears she has no choice but to keep waiting.
