This app will notify you every time the police kill someone in the U.S.

In 2015, over 1,000 people were shot and killed by police officers. One month into 2016 and the trend of people dying at the hands of the police doesn’t appear to be changing.

The FBI plans to build out a system to more accurately track the number of police killings and continued media vigilance is likely to shed light on more murders in the coming months, but now, there’s an app that will notify you whenever the police kill someone in the U.S.

Archives + Absences is an iPhone app developed by Josh Begley, a research editor for The Intercept. The concept is simple: the moment word of another police shooting gets out, you receive a push notification with the victim’s name.

Opening the app will gives you two viewing options: the news feed panel, a list of people murdered by police grouped chronologically and a map showing the specific place where the victim was killed.
