Trump Keeps Obsessively Tweeting About the Mueller Probe

Donald Trump is either anxious about the encroaching special counsel probe into his inner circle’s ties to Russia and other nations, or he is simply testing the waters ahead of an attempt to fire Robert Mueller. Or both.

This weekend, Trump continued tweeting about fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, fired FBI Director James Comey, and Mueller, who many worry could be next. For someone who claims to have done nothing wrong, Trump certainly seems to talk a lot about collusion.

On Saturday night, he said the Mueller investigation “should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime.” It is a “WITCH HUNT!” he tweeted.

On Sunday morning, Trump accused Comey of lying under oath to the Senate Judiciary Committee last May. “Wow, watch Comey lie under oath to Senator G when asked ‘have you ever been an anonymous source…or known someone else to be an anonymous source…?’ He said strongly ‘never, no.’ He lied as shown clearly on @foxandfriends,” the president tweeted.

That tweet came after Fox and Friends aired a segment accusing Comey of lying about McCabe’s interaction with a reporter.

Comey responded to Trump’s previous comments on Saturday by saying, “Mr. President, the American people will hear my story very soon. And they can judge for themselves who is honorable and who is not.”

That was a reference to the former FBI director’s forthcoming book, “A Higher Loyalty,” due out on April 17.

Trump also tried to undercut reports that McCabe took copious notes of his previous interactions with the president and shared them with Mueller’s investigators. “Spent very little time with Andrew McCabe, but he never took notes when he was with me,” Trump tweeted. “I don’t believe he made memos except to help his own agenda, probably at a later date. Same with lying James Comey. Can we call them Fake Memos?”

Next, the president went after the Mueller team, accusing it of having “13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans.” He added, “And yet, there is NO COLLUSION!”

No one, other than Trump, needs reminding that Mueller actually is a Republican, as if that mattered.

“You can smell the fear coming through in Trump’s tweets this morning,” MSNBC analyst Matthew Miller said. “I think we are really at one of the most dangerous times of Mueller’s probe.”
