Donald Trump Says He Only Trusts Fellow Rich People to Run the Economy

Only rich people should be tasked with running our economy into the ground, a triumphant President Donald Trump told a crowd in Iowa on Wednesday night.

During a rally at a community college in Cedar Rapids—part of Trump’s neverending campaign to remind Americans that he definitely did win the election—the president bragged about the personal wealth of Gary Cohn, his top economic adviser and a former bigwig at Goldman Sachs, and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, the “King of Bankruptcy” who’s worth a reported $2.5 billion.

“Those particular positions, I just don’t want a poor person. Does that make sense?” Trump told the crowd of Iowans, according to the Associated Press.

The event marked Trump’s fifth campaign event in as many months of his administration. Doesn’t it feel like it’s been much, much longer?

  • Just days after the Minnesota cop who shot and killed Philando Castile in front of his girlfriend and her child during a 2016 traffic stop was acquitted of manslaughter, the former Milwaukee police officer who killed Sylville Smith during a foot chase last August was found not guilty on reckless homicide charges late Wednesday.
