The New York Times Loves Fake News

From a literal perspective, fake news is a terrific description of much of mainstream media. The manbaby who coined the phrase uses it to describe anything that makes him feel sad, but taken at face value, it accurately describes so much of the mainstream media’s “journalistic” output. Like this.

Beyond parody headline in the NYT. Can’t decide whether they’re deliberately trolling us at this point, or whether they need to fire all their headline writers.

This utter garbage from the New York Times has, shall we say, the veneer of news, but anyone with half a brain in their head can see it is merely a very crude and amateurish imitation of the real thing. It’s fake news. This article is more than just a bad headline, as the beginning of the piece by Luke Broadwater, the NYT White House correspondent, describes a situation that doesn’t exist and never did. Look at this babybrained Fox News shit.

Mr. Trump was achieving his maximalist policy goals with efficiency and minimal internal drama, a notable change from his first term. The White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, known as the “ice maiden,” received much of the credit.

Did Susie Wiles write that paragraph? If she didn’t, I’m not sure what she would print would read any different than what the NYT published. Trump has a “veneer” of discipline because many “journalists” at outlets like the NYT are more than happy to award it to him every day in spite of all available evidence. This kind of deliberate pro-Trump “efficient” framing completely ignores major events like the total shitshow Trump created on February 3rd, where he crashed markets after announcing his tariffs and then delayed them shortly after. Is it efficient to cause the S&P 500 to have a five percent intraday swing entirely off the whims of the president? Or how about Elon Musk creating untold chaos throughout America by his slapdash and often illegal government cuts in every department, leading the courts to overturn some of them. Is that efficient too? What about the McCarthyite “foreign assistance” survey that (mistakenly?) was sent out to federal workers?

Only someone with severe brain damage or terminal MAGA propaganda poisoning could earnestly believe that Trump has been “efficient.”

Do the people at the NYT who continually publish fake news stories creating a favorable reality for Trump that doesn’t exist have brain damage? Or do they know what they’re doing? If it’s the latter, it’s fake news, by any literal definition of the term. They are presenting themselves as Very Serious journalists, but they are not doing any of the actual work to be one. They’re faking it.

The New York Times is notorious for being especially obstinate, as they have long believed that all news is fake until they report it. This article from Vice in 2019 proves how they consistently publish their version of other journalists’ already reported articles without ever linking to their work. There is no other outlet like the NYT who sniffs their own farts to this degree, and I am tired of tiptoeing around the fact that this institution has long been hostile to any kind of journalism that doesn’t come from inside their own safe space for America’s most out of touch elitists.

As a longtime media critic, I have written incendiary things about every single mainstream media outlet at this point, and to many of their credit, they still answer my e-mails when I ask for comment, even if they think I’m being unreasonable and say so to my face. They don’t always comment on the record, but a place like CNN is very responsive and despite my myriad issues with many of their braindead anchors, I respect that many people underneath them in the org chart are earnestly trying to do journalism. Jake Tapper may not be, but I can promise you there are a lot of people behind him tasked with cleaning up his messes and trying to adhere to journalistic principles.

The NYT is not responsive at all. They are the lone outlet who has never responded to an e-mail of mine in nearly a decade of doing this work. I reached out to them last year for a comment when they printed Benjamin Netanyahu’s lie as their front-page headline when their own story contradicted it, and they never responded to me or anyone else asking them “what the fuck” and then quietly changed the headline later that day without writing an update. They do not operate in good faith, and so it’s long past time we stopped awarding the NYT any presumption of it. They constantly platform right-wing propagandist Chris Rufo who openly laughs at how he lies nonstop and uses them to further his own agenda, and yet the NYT seems to be oblivious to this fact. Or…

Journalism is great because all of us have to put our words out there and be graded on it, so let’s start grading the NYT on the words they print, not necessarily the rage those words make us feel. There are still plenty of terrific journalists toiling underneath an army of the most out of touch editors and management that mainstream journalism has ever seen, but I am frankly getting sick of noting that qualifier when most of what it does is just run interference for the NYT’s cynical elites whose whole goal in life seemingly is to publish fake news that makes Trump look good. “Journalists” who make up lies on behalf of Trump do not deserve your outrage. They deserve your condescension and patronization. Make these NYT writers and editors feel as silly and childish as the words they happily print. Let’s bring shame back to America.
