Kellyanne Conway Tries to Defend Trump From Comey but Only Makes Things Worse
On Sunday night, former FBI Director James Comey sat down for an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. Despite largely being made up of moral and patriotic posturing, it has ignited the kind of firestorm that not even a military strike on Syria could distract from.
Luckily for Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway is here to defend him! Unluckily for Donald Trump, she is doing a very bad job.
This morning, Conway appeared on Good Morning America in an attempt to contain the aftermath of last night’s interview, and met the Comey spectacle with her signature spin, saying: “The president is very confounded that this person is always able to divert the spotlight to him. He was a very deft way of making things about him.”
This is pretty classic Conway, criticizing people for doing something Donald Trump has built a career and presidency off of. As annoying as the press tour for A Higher Loyalty is, it is extremely impressive that the attention around it has befuddled Trump, who apparently truly cannot imagine a situation in which someone else would dominate headlines.
