Serena and Venus Williams will face each other once more

No surprises here: Serena Williams sailed through her match against Madison Keys at the US Open on Sunday.

Williams easily dispatched Keys in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3. She’s well on her way to winning the Open outright, which seemingly everyone in the world wants her to do, since it would not only give her her first calendar year Grand Slam but would also see her tie Steffi Graf’s record for the most Grand Slam titles in the history of the Open era.

To get there, though, she has to face a familiar obstacle in the quarterfinal round: her sister, Venus. Venus also won her match on Sunday, defeating Anett Kontaveit in just 50 minutes.

It will be the 27th time the two women have faced each other. In a sign of their longevity and dominance, the game will take place exactly 14 years after the sisters’ first US Open match against each other.

Such constant rivalry would doom the relationship of lesser beings, but Venus and Serena have remained devoted to each other.

“I’m so proud of Serena, and I think she’s proud of me. We inspire each other,” Venus said on Sunday. Excuse us, there’s just something in our eye…
