‘Warfighting’-Obsessed Defense Secretary Doubles Down Against ‘Climate Change Crap’

Pete Hegseth really seems to have a seven-year-old’s understanding of what the US military does. He can’t stop talking about battlefields and “warfighting” and so on, a Fox News talking head’s approximation of running around the yard holding a stick yelling “pew pew!”

On Sunday, he reiterated that stance, and the apparent abandonment of certain programs and activities that, as basically any non-cooked observed could tell him, actually do a whole lot toward keeping America and the world safe. “The [Department of Defense] does not do climate change crap,” he posted on X. “We do training and warfighting.” Okay, little buddy; sounds cool.

The post was in response to a CNN story Sunday morning in which various military experts and insiders warned that the targeted cuts to climate-related programs could have real impacts. The moves could produce “readiness issues all around,” per one source to CNN, and will likely cost more money than they save once the disasters start hitting more and more military sites. A former assistant secretary of the Air Force said: “Inaction at this point will put our readiness and the lives of our troops and their families at greater risk.”

This comes not long after an actual DoD press release said the department would look to cut “so-called ‘climate change’ and other woke programs,” without even a hint that leadership have considered what those programs actually do. On Sunday, the Pentagon’s press secretary John Ullyot repeated that little bon mot of absurdity, saying: “Climate zealotry and other woke chimeras of the Left are not part of that core mission.”

For the record, the Pentagon’s own “About” page says its mission is “to provide the military forces needed to deter war and ensure our nation’s security.” Perhaps Secretary Warfighting hasn’t read it?
