Divorce Hotel Allows You to Legally End Your Marriage in Comfort and Style
Ah, le divorce. The dissolution of a marriage is so inconvenient, so uncomfortable, so… lacking in continental breakfasts. Well, at least it was until one Dutch entrepreneur/genius named Jim Halfens decided to open the Divorce Hotel, a one stop shop (actually, there are six branches conveniently scattered across the Netherlands) for couples looking for quickie divorces.
“They arrive on Friday and we give them everything they need to leave Sunday with their divorce papers,” says Halfens. “Divorces can cost a lot of money and a lot of time. Here, it’s done in three days.”

Couples who check into the hotel are given access to lawyers, mediators, psychologists and separate accommodations. The price of the hotel package varies depending on the complexity of the couple’s assets, but generally falls somewhere between $2,500 and $10,000.
While expensive, Halfens insists that the price is worth it:
“We have everything they need… The marriage failed, and that’s negative. But it’s also a new start, and that’s positive. The only thing we can do is offer a better solution than fighting for years.”
In fact, he insists that a stay at the Divorce Hotel can do wonders for a couple’s future relationship as exes:
“We once had a guy that said, ‘I want a bottle of champagne,’ and did a toast to his wife. He said, ‘I had a wonderful time with you, and I wish you a nice future. Please wish for me a nice future as well.'”
Leave it to those funky Dutch to invent the exit honeymoon.
