#ICantBreathe goes from Twitter to the streets

Protests in New York over a grand jury’s decision not to indict a white New York City police officer in the death of Eric Garner have been going strong for two days.

More than 200 people were arrested in overnight protests during the second night of demonstrations, ABC reported Friday morning.

In New York’s TriBeCa neighborhood, a large crowd of marchers, accompanied by NYPD officers on motorcycles, wound their way down the streets chanting “I can’t breathe” and “Hand up, don’t shoot,” a nod to the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson.

“I can’t breathe” has become a popular rallying cry online as well, with more than 266,000 tweets being sent with the hashtag #ICantBreathe in the past day, according to social media search engine Topsy.
