‘Anchorman’ Gets Its Own Museum Space

Looking for something “classy” this weekend? You could stop by the Newseum in Washington, D.C., which just unveiled its new Anchorman exhibit.

The museum features props from the beloved 2004 movie, including Sex Panther cologne, a stuffed prop of Baxter and the suit worn by the fictional newscaster Ron Burgundy.

The exhibit, created in partnership with Paramount Pictures, uses comedy to shed light on the not-so-funny world of 1970’s newsrooms, where women were treated as second-class reporters.

The Newseum curators wanted to tell the real stories of television newsrooms from that era.

“There’s always truth in humor and so we get to tell the real story of what it was like in 1970s local TV newsrooms when women were first starting to flex their muscle and getting into the anchor chair,” said Patty Rhule, senior manager/exhibit development at the Newseum.

The opening coincides with “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” which hits theaters Dec. 20.
