Angelenos Capture Dramatic Wildfire Photos on Instagram
A fast-moving wildfire burning in Glendora, California has burned at least 1,700 acres. The fire in the hills northeast of Downtown Los Angeles has sent smoke and ash in every direction, with reports of the smell of wood smoke as far as 30-miles west in Santa Monica. In a sign of the times, Angelenos have taken to Instagram and social media to post pictures of the vibrant skies.
As of Thursday night the fire was 30 percent contained, according to the L.A. County Office of Emergency Management. Three men — Clifford E. Henry, 22; Jonathan C. Jarrell, 23; and Steven R. Aguirre, 21, — have been arrested on charges of recklessly starting a fire. One of the men told detectives they were tossing pieces of paper into a campfire when one of the papers flew away and lit the dry brush on fire.
