Kelly Osbourne is considering getting the same ovary-removing surgery as Angelina Jolie

After Angelina Jolie’s revelatory New York Times op-ed detailing her decision to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes as a preventative measure — in light of being diagnosed with the BRCA1 cancer gene — Kelly Osbourne announced on The Talk that she, too, is considering the difficult operation.

As the 30-year-old former Fashion Police host explained, she underwent testing for the genetic mutation after her mother, Sharon Osbourne, discovered she had the gene and endured breast surgery. “My mom made all of us get tested after she found out that she had it and got her double mastectomy.”

Speaking as a child of a cancer survivor, Osbourne supported Jolie’s decision to undergo the drastic surgery for the sake of her family — a decision which has now launched the 39-year-old into early menopause. As Osbourne explains, “I agree with this 100 percent. I know that one day I will eventually have to do it too because if I have children, I want to be there to bring them up. I want to be there to support them in every way I can.”

While The Talk‘s cast went on to discuss the extreme nature of Jolie’s therapy, arguing that the actress does indeed mention other less severe options available to treat ovarian cancer, Osbourne pointed out she was opening up a new dialogue concerning cancer prevention. “It’s something I applaud Angelina for because she’s bringing attention to this, and people are now going to go out and get tested for it.”
