How do you spot the next hot model? The next Joan Smalls or Chanel Iman? Is it her cheekbones? Her signature walk? Most often a telltale sign is if she does a turn on the Prada runway.
As Jezebel once reported, Miuccia Prada’s whitewashed runways have a miserable history of diversity — failing to feature a single black model from Naomi Campbell’s turn in 1993 to Jourdan Dunn’s debut in 2008. So when Prada hires a brown face, it’s news — and a sad but telling sign that a model of color is about to have a moment. Hence our attention on Lineisy Montero Feliz.
Feliz and her baby afro walked in Prada’s Fall 2015 show just last week, sending fashion crowds a tizzy with her piercing eyes, freckled visage, and enigmatic backstory. Or rather, the lack of one: as i-D observed, very few details about the Dominican beauty are available – even her Instagram profile is pretty barebones, shying in number of followers and posts compared to her fellow Instagirls.
But I have a feeling this will won’t be the case for long: after walking for Prada last week, Feliz then strutted her stuff for Balenciaga, Loewe, and closed Stella McCartney today (yes, closed the show). With a resume like that, she’s sure to be the next big thang.
