Texting while driving is a notoriously dangerous practice. It’s now the leading cause of death for teen drivers, surpassing even the hazard of drinking and driving. But no matter how many statistics we hear, texting behind the wheel is a hard habit to kick.
A new Volkswagen ad may just scare you enough to quit. The company showed a public service announcement called “Eyes on the Road” to a theater full of unsuspecting moviegoers in Hong Kong, which gave viewers the sense that they’re in the driver’s seat of a car, speeding down a winding road. Then, thanks to a “location-based broadcaster,” everyone in the theater simultaneously received a text message. No spoiler alerts here, just watch.
