'Obamacare for the Internet'? Really?

Ted Cruz didn’t waste any time criticizing President Obama’s position in favor of Net Neutrality, dubbing it “Obamacare for the Internet”:

Likewise, the Internet didn’t waste any time criticizing Sen. Cruz’s criticism. The term “Obamacare for the Internet” quickly became a trending topic on Twitter today, joining the ranks of absurdist comedy video “Too Many Cooks,” and the Brittany Murphy.

That Cruz would liken the president’s position on Net Neutrality to Obamacare was sadly predictable, considering it’s all the Texas lawmaker has been talking about for years. Unfortunately for Cruz, his attempt to coin a new use for the term wasn’t well received. In fact, it was straight up ridiculed.

Some challenged Cruz’s intelligence and knowledge on the subject via popular image macros.

Others ridiculed Cruz’s strict constructivism

And then there were those who mocked the Senator by imagining what life under an Obamacare Internet would look like:

Others took the opportunity to note that AT&T gave money to Cruz during the 2012 election cycle.

According to watchdog Open Secrets,  AT&T also gave money to Obama, Mitt Romney, and House Speaker John Boehner, who also issued a statement claiming that Net Neutrality kills jobs.

The takeaway for Cruz? You can mock Obama, but when you try to mock the Internet, the Internet pushes back.
