Talk about a wonder bra! A Brazilian woman claims her support bra stopped a stray bullet and saved her from becoming the latest victim in the country’s recent wave of people killed by gun violence.
Medeiros, a market vendor, said she went out into the street to investigate a commotion, which turned out to be a robbery in progress. The thief opened fire across the street and a stray bullet hit Medeiros, lodging into the wiring of her black lace bra.
Closed-circuit TV footage showed Medeiros stumbling back into the store, according to Globo. Medeiros was treated by medics and released without injury.
She said she felt a “burning sensation” when she was shot. She gave thanks to God and the bra for saving her life.
More than a dozen Brazilians have been killed or wounded by stray bullets in recent weeks. In Rio de Janeiro, host to next year’s Olympics, a 4-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy were killed and at least 10 others were injured by stray bullets in January alone. Some community leaders in Rio have complained that a police crackdown on heavily-armed criminal gangs is putting innocent bystanders at risk.
